Adym Kohi is an artist of Māori and Anglo-Celtic descent based in the Waikato region of Aotearoa. His creative studio is a cold, probably too dark, stone basement beneath his home in the middle of rural nowhere; and it shows. Born and raised in the Bay of Plenty among the sulfuric miasma of Rotorua, he grew up inspired by the many archaic myths and legends of the land, the greater Aotearoa, and the vast ancient world beyond. A lifelong love of storytelling and horror is largely to blame for the ideas in this exhibition, distress is around every corner, with gratuitous nudity to soften the sharpness of it all.
